7 things you need to add to your water for better skin

Did you know that over 50% of adults in the US do not drink enough water? Because, let’s be honest. As refreshing as water can be when we’re really, really thirsty… it’s not always our favorite drink.

And yes, we all know that drinking enough water each day is good for you, but that doesn’t change the fact that we’d much rather have a PSL from Starbucks.

But, what if we added a little… spice?

Don’t worry… we got you.

Here are 7 things to add to your water that can:

1). Help increase your water intake (in general)

2). Give your skin a super boost and leave you looking like you have a perma-filter on

Lemon

The classic lemon water. 10/10 recommend starting your day with this one, if you can (on an empty stomach is best!).

Firstly, lemons are packed with antioxidants and are an amazing source of vitamin C, which can help repair damaged skin cells. It’s also a known collagen booster, which means it can help fight off fine lines and wrinkles.

Not only that, drinking a nice, tall glass of lemon water has been known to help effectively prevent those pesky breakouts. You heard that right – lemon water can actually help with your acne.

Pro Tip: drink your lemon water either warmed up or room temp and try to make it a morning habit. It also helps a lot with that morning breath (it’s okay to admit that our morning breath can get a little funky… this is a safe space).

Mint

It’s not just for mojitos. Mint water is great for giving our skin a nice glow on those days when we’re looking a little dull.

Slipping a sprig of mint into your water can also help a lot with making daily digestion go smoothly.

Now, you may be thinking, well… what does that have to do with my skin? We’re glad you asked.

When things in that area are in working order, your body is constantly ridding itself of toxins that could otherwise manifest themselves on your skin, often in the form of whiteheads and annoying breakouts. Basically, if toxins can’t exit through the back door, they’ve still gotta exit from somewhere.

That’s where our friend mint comes in.

Watermelon

On top of being super hydrating, watermelon is another vitamin C heavyweight. Not only that, the presence of vitamin E can also help fight hyperpigmentation, as well as help repair the effects of free radicals (think discoloration, wrinkles, uneven skin tone, and other things we’d much rather do without).

And if that wasn’t enough reason to literally go buy the nearest watermelon right now, it’s also packed full of vitamin A, which is known to have radiant effects on the skin, leaving you with a dewy, youthful glow. We love healthy-looking skin here.

Chlorophyll

Okay, so we know there’s quite a bit of controversy surrounding the topic of liquid chlorophyll, but it’s a yes from us, here at ElastaFlex.

A few drops of chlorophyll in an 8oz glass of water has been reported to help with hyperpigmentation and skin texture, on top of being a natural detoxifier and deodorizer. No, but seriously… it really keeps those pits in check. Super clutch on those mornings you’re running late and forget to spray on your Dove antiperspirant.

Disclaimer alert: your poop will be green with chlorophyll as a part of your daily routine. Sorry… tmi, but TRUE!

(Also note: chlorophyll can sometimes interact with certain prescription meds, so definitely consult with your doctor if you take anything regularly, just to double-check that it’s safe for you to try)!

Cucumber

There’s something about cucumber water that just makes you feel like you’re meeting a friend for lunch at the Beverly Hills Hotel.

But aesthetic aside, cucumbers are packed full of vitamin B5, which studies have shown to be effective in preventing breakouts and blemishes.

They’re also over 90% water for an extra hydration-boost.

Cinnamon

For this one, you can just grab some cinnamon tea bags (for preparation with ease).

But, cinnamon is definitely on our spices to love list, as studies show that it may help with collagen production, which boosts skin elasticity and fights off signs of aging.

It also has some note-worthy anti-fungal and anti-bacterial properties (bye, bye acne) and believe it or not, can also help with cramping and PMS symptoms (just as an added bonus).

ACV (Apple Cider Vinegar)

The best thing about the items on this list is that most of them work just as well on the skin, as they do inside your body.

Apple Cider Vinegar is a natural astringent and exfoliator, so if your skin leans more towards the oily end of the spectrum, it works great as a toner to remove dirt and all that excess oil.

A shot of ACV in a cup of water each day can help detox the skin, clear out toxins (which your skin will love you for), and a host of other benefits.

Let us know your favorite things to add into your water and/or if you try anything on this list. We promise you won’t be disappointed.
